Hello hello hello from down under!
Ah, Australia. Where do I even begin? I am so in love with this country even after the short 3 days we’ve had here in Sydney that I’m ready to cancel my return ticket and never come home. Let’s start with a quick recap of the very long journey here, shall we? I left DC on Saturday evening and arrived to Sydney on Monday morning (so weird!) due to the 15 hour time difference and let’s just say I was so happy to breathe fresh air when I finally got off of the plane. My flight to San Francisco was a breeze and, even though I was tired, I forced myself to stay awake and did a lot of trip planning and reading to keep myself occupied as best as I could. When I got to San Francisco, I spent my 2 hour layover loading up on a green smoothie (I love you, California airports) and getting in as many steps as I possibly could to tire myself out.
The 15 hour flight to Sydney was just that — F I F T E E N H O U R S — and my body was so achy from all of the sitting I thought I was going to turn into one giant cramped muscle.
I spent the first 8 of those hours sleeping (very uncomfortably, mind you), and then another 7 hours watching the entire first season of The Crown on Netflix (so good!) and staring at the map on the screen in front of me wondering how to speed up time. When I landed in Sydney, I took a quick train to the other terminal where I met up with my sister who was flying in from Brisbane that morning (have you read her blog? she bought a one way ticket to Australia and got here a week before I did!).
We were so excited to see each other and get our adventure started so we headed first thing to our Airbnb in Darlinghurst, the perfect centrally-located neighborhood right in the heart of the city. It is about a 7 minute walk from the Kings Cross train station (the public transportation here is a breeze and SO clean!) so from the airport to our front door it ended up being maybe 25 minutes–super easy! Our hostess, Olivia, recommended we head next door to Bill’s, the cutest corner coffee shop, for amazing salads and coffees before we got started with our afternoon of exploring.
For my own memory and also for your viewing pleasure, I wanted to show give you all a quick tour of our apartment because it is one of the most thoughtfully designed spaces I’ve ever seen and has been so perfect for our five days here in Sydney.
walking down the hallway from the front door
even though this is technically a basement unit, the bright windows make it feel otherwise
i love this bathtub and the organic shampoo + conditioner already stocked in the shower for us to use
the coziest bed complete with light linen sheets
plants everywhere, just the way I like it
So, there you have it! I’m already sad about having to leave this place when we head to Melbourne on Saturday, but it has been the perfect retreat for us to rest our feet (and escape the pouring rain we’ve been having here) each afternoon.
